IVM Mexico

In-vitro maturation, or IVM Mexico is an assisted reproductive technology (ART) that involves collecting eggs from a woman before they are mature.

IVM Mexico and IVF Mexico are quite similar — both involve the retrieval of eggs from a woman’s ovaries, followed by fertilization in a lab, and implantation of one or more fertilized embryos back into the woman’s uterus. The essential modification is the state of the eggs at retrieval. With IVF, the eggs are matured inside the ovaries, while in IVM Mexico, fertility doctors in Mexico remove immature eggs and then mature them outside the body.

Doctors and IVF experts in Mexico believe In Vitro Maturation (IVM) Mexico prevents complications associated with fertility drug use, such as ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome.

Benefits of IVM Mexico

  • In vitro maturation provides a safe alternative to stimulated IVF for women who are at high risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS).
  • Women with polycystic ovaries are highly likely to conceive using this method of egg collection. Compared to the average 4 eggs produced by women with a normal menstrual cycle, women with polycystic ovaries produce around 16 eggs per cycle.
  • Reduced cost of IVF treatment due to no fertility drugs

The cost of IVM Mexico is one third of the standard IVF treatment. In addition to the discomfort of the daily injections and its complications, traditional IVF treatment takes a long preparation process that lasts weeks before the mature eggs are retrieved.

Good Candidate for IVM

Suitable candidates for IVM Mexico includes patients with PCOS, an alternative to IVF in younger women with normal menstrual cycles, women diagnosed with cancer who would like to explore fertility preservation, and patients wishing to salvage immature eggs collected during IVF or ICSI in Mexico.

A good candidate for IVM Mexico is also women who are aged 35 and younger and have a follicle count of 10 or more.

A considerable number of couples evade the soaring costs of IVF treatments in the US and travel to Puerto Vallarta and Cancun for affordable, modern IVF treatments. Mexico clinics pride themselves as being pioneer in the application of In Vitro Maturation treatment.

IVM Procedure

An ultrasound is performed between days 3-5 of the woman’s menstrual cycle to check if there are a sufficient number of follicles for harvesting. Thirty-six hours before the eggs are to be harvested, a hormone injection is given to mature the eggs before collection.

Once the eggs have been collected, healthy eggs are matured (cultured) in a laboratory for up to 48 hours. The mature eggs are then fertilized using conventional IVF or IVF with ICSI methods and then transferred back into the womb.

Risks and Side Effects of IVM

The method of IVM in Mexico is much unpretentious for every patient. High doses of injectable medications are not employed. Side effects from medications are much lower and the entire treatment cycle is shorter. Blood tests are typically not required, along with fewer ultrasound monitoring visits.

This decrease in medications and monitoring reduces the costs of an IVM cycle to about half of a conventional IVF cycle.
