Sperm Retrieval Methods in Mexico

Methods of Sperm Retrieval

Fertility clinics have various methods of sperm retrieval if medical or religious factors prevent manual stimulation. Collected sperm is washed and analyzed before use in fertility treatments to increase the success rate of pregnancy.

PESA

PESA (percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration) is a method of sperm collection, performed under local anaesthesia, which involves extracting sperm with a fine needle from the epididymis or testes. The sperm is then implanted into the centre of the egg through the process of ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) to be used in IVF.

TESA & TESE

Male infertility can be a result of impaired sperm production or a blockage preventing ejaculation. Fertility specialists use the sperm retrieval methods of TESA (Testicular Sperm Aspiration) or TESE (Testicular Sperm Extraction)  in such cases. TESE involves a surgical biopsy of the testis, while TESA uses a needle to extract fluid and tissue from the testis. Sperm is then retrieved from the tissue.

MESA

MESA is used in cases of severe male infertility.  MESA (micro-epididymal sperm aspiration), is performed under general anesthesia. Using microsurgery techniques, fertility specialists make a small incision in the scrotum and remove fluid and tissue. The wound is closed with dissolvable stitches and swelling and pain subsides within a few days, during which prescribed painkillers may be taken to ease the pain.

Sperm extracted from any of the above procedures can be frozen and cryopreserved for future use.
