Infertility can be treated using assisted reproductive treatment methods or with artificial insemination. The most used method of artificial insemination is IUI (intrauterine insemination), where sperm is inserted into a woman’s uterus to increase the chance of fertilization. Frozen sperm that has been cryopreserved can be used for IUI purposes.
Women are prescribed fertility drugs to stimulate ovulation and ovulation is monitored by specialists. At the natural time of ovulation, prepared sperm is placed into the uterus using a catheter.
The success rates of IUI are similar to those of natural conception through intercourse - about 15 - 20 percent per cycle. The success rates of artificial insemination treatment depends on many factors affecting fertility, including the number of eggs produced, the quality and count of the sperm and the couples age.
